Operators and users of lift trucks must be training in the safe operation, so whether your an employee, employer or self employed you must undergo forklift training as stated by the Safety, Health & Welfare Act 2005 and S.I 299 of 2007 ( General Applications ) Regulation 2007 Forklift Training Course Aim To provide operators with the skill, knowledge and attitude to operate a forklift truck correctly and safely, weather working in a warehouse, construction, forecourt, and all other locations where forklifts are used this training course is vital for your safety and the safety of others. Forklift Training Objectives: On Completion of this course operators will be able to; Understand the legal requirements of operating a forklift Understand the dangers of operating a forklift Understand the stability issues with operating a forklift Understand the importance of carrying out pre-use checks / daily checks Be able to operate a forklift safely and correctly for your own safety and the safety of others and to protect equipment and stock. Forklift Training Course Contents: On completion of the course the operator will understand: The legal requirements for operating a forklift Introduction to the forklift Operators duties and responsibilities Operators driving and manoeuvring Operation of hydraulic controls Forklift stability Load assessment Daily inspection / pre-use checks of forklift Approach a load / pick up/ transport/ stack / de-stack Battery care and maintenance Battery charging Diesel / LPG trucks Ramps and inclines Condition of racking Forklift Training Course Duration: There are different training requirements, the duration of training depends on the operators experience: ( see below ) Refresher Forklift Operator Training Course For people who have undergone training and have a current licence which is still valid. ( A 1 day course is required ) Experienced or Existing Forklift Operator Training Course: For people with experience driving forklifts but may not have a licence or the licence has expired for some time, ( Up to a 2.5 day course maybe required ) Novice Forklift Operator Training Course: For people with little or no experience driving a forklift and have never undergone forklift training ( Up to a 5 day course maybe required ) Conversion Operator Training Course: Conversion forklift training is for operators that have experience operating one type of lift truck and now need to operate another type of lift truck or a more powerful lift truck. e.g. an operator has experience operating a counterbalance lift truck , the operator now needs to operate a reach lift truck, the operator must undergo conversion training.
